Nepal feels aftershocks of 5.5 magnitude

The tremors were felt near China border in Nepal near the Mt.Everest

Tremors of magnitude 5.5 on the Ritcher scale were felt in Nepal in the early hours of Monday. The earthquake was of moderate intensity. This is the fifth earthquake in the last ten days indicating the shifting of the tectonic plates.

The National Centre for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences said the earthquake occurred at 5:05 A.M., at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter of this quake is located at Solukhumbu district in the Mt. Everest region. Situated around 150 km East of Kathmandu, the intensity recorded is said to be around 5.6 on the Ritcher scale. This was the 475th aftershock of magnitude above 4. The earthquake in Nepal witnessed in April 2015 is in a quake-prone region that killed 9000 and caused millions of rupees worth damage. The Country based mostly in the Himalayan region is prone to frequent earthquakes.

There has been no report yet of casualties or damages. This earthquake was felt in Kathmandu and tremors were felt in parts of central and Eastern Nepal.
