On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the members of the Lok Sabha and said that the 1942 Quit India Movement had clarion call as ‘karenge ya marenge’ (will do or die) but today it is ‘karenge aur kar ke rahenge’ (we will do and stay.)

The lower house of parliament was remembering the movement on its 75th anniversary. PM Modi said, “Today, we don’t have Gandhi or the kind of leadership of that time. But 125 crore people of today’s India have the belief that if we work together, we can realise the dreams of the freedom fighters.”

Narendra Modi reminded the leaders that the country is still in the midst of poverty, malnutrition and illiteracy in large groups.

He told the leaders it was time and urged them to take a step towards a positive change in this regard.

PM Modi also recalled all the great freedom fighters and appreciated the sacrifices they made for the country.

He added, “From 2017 to 2022, when India turns 75, we need to create the same spirit that existed from 1942 to 1947.”

Modi also pointed out the impact on the rest of the world after we achieved freedom, “Our freedom was not only about our country. It was a defining moment in bringing an end to colonialism in other parts of the world too.”

The Prime Minister also gave a message to the youth in the country, he said, “It is important for the younger generation to know about historical events like the Quit India movement.”

He hopes that the youth can learn the same spirit like the fighters from our freedom struggle and fight for a good and just change.
