Doctors from Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district have gone on a mass leave after a FIR was filed against senior doctors at a state run hospital for the death of 49 infants.

The FIR was lodged on Monday against the chief medical officer (CMO) and chief medical superintendent (CMS) and a senior child specialist of the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) district hospital. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed for the FIR to be filed leading to a large group of doctors from the district objecting the FIR.

The office bearers from the medical association informed that the doctors decided to go on leave until 7th September to protest the FIR. The association also confirmed that the emergency and post mortem services would continue to run.

The Provincial Medical Services (PMS) association has pushed the state government to form a technical group to understand and evaluate the cause of the infant’s deaths.

At present, the case has been analyzed by a nontechnical team. The state government is being accused of acting in haste due to the pressure. They have urged the government to stop prosecuting innocent doctors.

A memorandum was sent by the PMS to the Principal Secretary Prashant Trivedi that demanded the FIRs that were filed against the three doctors to be withdrawn.
