AIADMK Expels A Few Members Of The Party Post Byelection

On Monday, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) relieved a few of their Party members. The expelled members are said to be supporters of T.T.V. Dinakaran. On Sunday, T.T.V. Dinakaran won the RK Nagar Byelection Polls.

After the meeting with Senior Office Bearers and Ministers attended by the Chief Minister and the Party Coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister and Coordinator O. Panneerselvam, the members were expelled from the Party. Palaniswami and Panneerselvam accused Dinakaran of deception, irregularities and gimmicks to win the Byelection. It is also stated Dinakaran’s camp distributed notes of Rs. 20 as coupons to the voters. The voters received an amount of Rs. 10,000 each in exchange for the coupons.

Dinakaran struck back stating the allegations are baseless. He also added the AIADMK distributed a total of Rs. 120 crore to the voters in the Constituency. “Let the Election Commission (EC) go into this too,” he further said.

P. Kalairajan, V. Muthiah, the District Secretaries in charge of South Chennai and Tirunelveli, the Secretary of the Karnataka State unit V. Pugazhendhi, the Spokespersons of the Party Nanjil Sampath and C. R. Saraswathi are the members expelled from the Party.

Four District Secretaries lost their positions but were not expelled from the Party. P. Vetrivel of North Chennai, N. G. Parthiban of Vellore, M. Rangasamy of Thanjavur and Thanga Tamilselvan of Theni are the four District Secretaries.

Thanga Tamilselvan said Panneerselvam and Palaniswami had no Locus Standi (the right or capacity to bring an action or to appear in a Court) to take action against him and others. He added that no provision in the Party Constitution for the posts of Coordinator and Co Coordinator was drafted during the period of the Founder M. G. Ramachandran. “We will move to the High Court against this decision of theirs,” Tamilselvan further said.

It is said expelling them from the Party will give them room to support any Party in the Assembly should their disqualification be set aside by the Court.
