On the 12th of March, a 76 year old man died in Kalaburagi, in north Karnataka due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
B. Sriramulu, the Health Minister of Karnataka, announced the demise late night on the 12th of March. With the demise of the 76 year old man, India reported its first death due to the deadly Coronavirus.
According to sources, the victim had a travel history from Saudi Arabia and landed in India on the 29th of February.
B. Sriramulu said, “The 76-year old man from Kalaburagi who passed away and was a suspected COVID-19 patient has been confirmed for COVID-19. Contact tracing (of family members and others he came in contact with,) isolation and other measures, as per protocol, are being carried out.”
The man who was admitted to a hospital in Kalaburagi, on the 5th of March, had several other health issues like asthma, hypertension, blood pressure among others. Later, on the 9th of March, he was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad and was tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Government reported another fresh case of Coronavirus, increasing the number to 5 positive cases.
The 5th patient is a 26 year old man with a travel history from Greece and is under isolation at a Bengaluru hospital.
- With these cases, India reported a total of 70 positive cases till date.
Globally, COVID-19 killed 4,000 people and more than 1,00,000 people were infected positiv.
