K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 17th of July, announced to extend Mid Day Meals to students in degree and intermediate colleges in Telangana.
According to the sources, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government extended the Mid Day Meal scheme for all government junior and degree colleges in Telangana.
Previously, the Mid Day Meal scheme was only for students of High school in the State.
The decision to extend the scheme was made to reduce dropout rate. Students who were attending junior and degree colleges in the morning were leaving the colleges in the afternoon. As a result, the dropout rate was increasing in government junior and degree colleges.
According to Mr. Rao, providing nutritious food to college and degree students would be healthy and it would also help in reducing the dropout rate.
Another major reason to introduce the Mid Day Meal scheme to junior and degree colleges was the good work of Raghuram, a lecturer at a government college of Jadcherla.
Lecturer Raghuram was serving Mid Day Meal to students of degree and junior colleges from his pocket money.
After knowing about the service of Mr. Raghuram, KCR called him and appreciated him for his good work.
Mr. Rao also felt the need of the Mid Day Meal scheme in degree and junior colleges.
In addition the Telangana CM also announced to build a new junior college in Jadcherla.
The scheme would be in enforced after the degree colleges and junior colleges reopen again.
