On the 9th of September, the Telangana High Court (HC) imposed a ban on immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar.
However, the ban has been implemented only on the idols made up of the plaster of paris (PoP.) The decision was taken after a hearing today morning. In regard to this, the Telangana HC asked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to issue guidelines and ensure everyone follows the same.
The HC bench also asked the GHMC to set up rubber dams at various places for immersion of PoP idols. In addition, the Court also directed the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government to deploy police force to keep a check on the mass gathering, the Wuhan virus also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols are being followed strictly.
Recently, the Telangana Government announced to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in the State amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Government also allowed immersion at Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund and made all the necessary arrangements, keeping the COVID-19 situation into consideration.
However, Mr. Venu Madhav, an advocate of the Telangana HC, filed a petition, demanding cancellation of Ganesh idol immersion at Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund, Hyderabad. In the last hearing on the 7th of September, the Chief Justice of Telangana Ms. Hima Kohli lashed out at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government for not submitting a report on the measures to be taken for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.
Today, the 9th of September, the Telangana HC reviewed the petition for the second time and ordered the Government to make the aforementioned arrangements.
Ganesh Chaturthi celebration is set to begin from the 10th of September in India.
