With the increasing number of people following vegan culture and consuming vegan food products, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new logo for vegan food.
The decision was taken by the FSSAI to help consumers easily identify vegan food with the “V” logo in green colour on the packaging.
Describing the vegan logo, the new green coloured logo has a ‘V’ in the middle of a square box with a small plant on top of it and vegan written at the bottom. Ms. Kruti Manish Rathore, a student of Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, designed the vegan food logo for the FSSAI. She is pursuing a Masters in Food Science and Nutrition.
Announcing the vegan logo introduction, Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, posted a tweet, “@FSSAIIndia launched a logo for vegan foods to help consumers easily identify and differentiate from non-vegan foods. This will empower the people to make informed food choices.”

So far, the FSSAI had logos for vegetarian and non-vegetarian products, which are dots in green and brown colours, now there would be another logo, ‘V’ for vegan food.
Mr. Arun Singhal, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the FSSAI said, “Earlier, we had logos for vegetarian (green dot) and non-vegetarian foods (brown dot). We have a growing movement towards veganism, so, we have come out with a vegan logo.
A majority of the population in India follow a vegan culture and avoid food products derived from animals like cow milk, butter, paneer, honey and others.
