Research published in clinical journal reveals that excess drinking water can be as dangerous as death
In a shocking revelation, drinking excessive water can lead to death. Yes, contradictory to the suggestion of drinking a lot of water, a recent study published in the Clinical Kidney Journal mentioned that drinking too much water can lead to death, amid several kidney issues and dysfunctioning of the system.
Dr. G.V. Rao, Director & Chief of Gastrointestinal & Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, says, “Although drinking enough water is known to be beneficial to health, drinking too much of it can result in water intoxication.” Dr. GV Rao said water intoxication happens when a body consumes more water than its kidney can flush out, resulting in serious health issues, and then death.
To justify and prove the thesis, the Clinical Kidney Journal mentioned the death of Bruce Lee, an American Martial Art legend, who believed to have died of drinking too much water, which was a major cause behind his kidney dysfunction. He was unable to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis. However, it doesn’t mean that you don’t drink enough water, as the body needs to be hydrated to avoid several health issues, but maintain a balance. Although there is no specific amount of water prescribed, one can maintain their balance with certain facts and body requirements. According to researchers, kidneys can eliminate about 20-28 liters of water per day, but only about 0.8 to 1.0 liters per hour. Drinking water for extra health benefits are fine, but do not make the consumption extreme, which is as dangerous as death.
