Hyderabad – Union Coal and Mines Minister Kishan Reddy announced that the central government will establish a committee to oversee the implementation of Jamili elections. This decision aims to streamline elections across the country, ensuring simultaneous polling for both state assemblies and the Parliament.
Minister Reddy pointed out that the frequent election cycles over the past five years have kept the election code in continuous effect, hindering government policy-making and delaying even simple decisions. He emphasized that this move is part of the central government’s larger vision to make India a developed country by 2047.
Key Issues Addressed:
- Frequent elections have caused traffic disruptions and noise pollution during rallies and public meetings.
- Separate elections for the Parliament and State Assemblies have led to a significant financial burden on the exchequer, with over Rs. 4,500 crore spent on election expenses.
Reddy expressed optimism that, despite some initial opposition, political parties would eventually support this move, as the nation engages in discussions about the Union Cabinet’s decision on Jamili elections.
