Amaravati: Former Chief Whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy has strongly criticized the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government’s new liquor policy, accusing it of promoting lawlessness and enabling TDP leaders to exploit the liquor trade for personal gain. Speaking at the YSRCP central office, Reddy highlighted concerns over the lack of transparency and the potential harm the policy could cause to families across Andhra Pradesh.
Reddy warned that the new policy could lead to an overflow of liquor in every village, with the government indirectly encouraging the spread of illegal belt shops. He alleged that TDP leaders have been using intimidation tactics to secure 15% commissions from liquor sales, introducing a culture of corruption in the trade.
He further noted the stark price difference between liquor in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states, questioning the inflated prices. Reddy also contrasted the TDP’s policies with the previous YSRCP government, which had reduced the number of wine shops by 33% and closed 43,000 belt shops, aiming to limit alcohol availability.
Reddy expressed concern that Naidu’s policies could harm families and undo the financial progress made by YS Jagan’s welfare programs, which have empowered women across the state.
