Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has criticized the previous government for alleged misuse of ₹4,000 crore in the implementation of the Jala Jeevan Mission. Speaking at a state-level workshop organized by the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department in Vijayawada, Kalyan highlighted inefficiencies, claiming that pipes were laid without ensuring a water source.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Kalyan announced his government’s commitment to strengthening the Jal Jeevan Mission and addressing water scarcity across the state. He revealed that he has requested the Centre to sanction ₹70,000 crore for the mission and discussed the proposal with Union Minister CR Patil.
“We will submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Jal Shakti Minister by the end of January. Providing clean water should be the top priority as it is a fundamental necessity for all,” Kalyan stated.
He emphasized the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure a daily supply of 55 liters of clean water per person under the Jal Jeevan Mission. “The mission was launched with the goal of achieving consistent water supply for every household,” he added, reiterating the government’s dedication to this cause.
