Amaravati: The coalition government has turned its focus toward resolving issues with the Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) introduced during the YSRC government. After collecting fees amounting to crores of rupees without regularizing the plots, the scheme left many citizens in financial distress. In a significant move, the Municipal and Urban Development Department has announced guidelines to clear pending applications by March, fulfilling long-standing public demands.
The government plans to issue fresh reminders to applicants whose LRS applications remain unresolved. Notices will request additional information, documents, and pending fees. Despite similar reminders in the past, responses were minimal. Licensed surveyors, who facilitated initial applications, are now required to communicate with applicants and provide updated information to urban development agencies. Notices will be sent via post or phone to ensure applicants receive timely updates.
The prior government allegedly diverted over ₹470 crore in LRS fees for other purposes, leaving dedicated accounts empty. Infrastructure development linked to regularization fees was sidelined, particularly in cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur.
Citizens urge the government to organize town-specific melas to address unresolved and falsely closed applications.
