Kakinada: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) hailed the success of its statewide Poru Bata protest against the hike in power charges, with party leaders and cadre submitting memoranda to officials from North Andhra to Rayalaseema, demanding a rollback of the increased tariffs.
Addressing the media, former minister K Kannababu highlighted the overwhelming participation in the protest. He criticized former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for reneging on his poll promise to reduce power charges, accusing him of delivering “super shocks” instead of his promised “Super Six” reforms.
The protest also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh before condemning the alleged failures of the coalition government. Kannababu announced that the agitation would intensify on January 3 with demonstrations targeting the failure of the fee reimbursement scheme.
He praised the YSRCP-led government for its nine-hour free power supply to farmers and claimed that Chandrababu Naidu’s policies had driven the power sector into debt, leaving DISCOMs financially strained.
The former minister also pointed to declining GDP, lack of new industries, and shrinking employment opportunities as signs of public discontent, which fueled the success of the Poru Bata protest.
