Amaravati: Nara Lokesh, the Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, has announced a significant change in the school routine, declaring that every Saturday will be a ‘No Bag Day’ for students. This initiative aims to encourage co-curricular activities and reduce the academic burden on children. Lokesh emphasized the importance of creating engaging activities that complement academic learning on Saturdays.
During a review meeting with education officials, Lokesh directed the officials to gather feedback from grassroots-level teachers and unions regarding the controversial GO 117. The decision on revoking the order, which was issued by the previous YSRCP government, will be based on the suggestions from teachers and stakeholders, ensuring that the solution is acceptable to all. The minister stressed that the goal is to prevent student drop-outs and ensure a holistic approach to education.
The meeting also focused on other educational reforms, including the upcoming legislation on teacher transfers and the creation of a unified app for teachers. Lokesh urged officials to complete the process of creating APAAR IDs to track student numbers and develop a comprehensive AP Model of Education blueprint.
The meeting was attended by key education officials, including Secretary Kona Sasidhar and Director VIjaya Rama Raju.
