Amaravati: Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan clarified that the opposition status in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly is determined by constitutional rules, not by individual decisions. Addressing the media on Monday, he stated that in Germany, seats are allotted based on vote percentage, but India’s system follows a majority-based approach.
Opposition Status Debate
YSRCP leaders criticized NDA leaders for disrupting the Governor’s speech, urging them to respect the public mandate of just 11 seats. Pawan Kalyan reiterated that the largest party forms the government, and the second-largest party gets the opposition status. “Even if YSRCP had won one more seat than us, they would have gotten the status,” he explained.
He also defended his seating protocol in the Assembly, stating that a Deputy CM follows the same protocol as a minister and does not sit next to the Prime Minister or other senior officials.
Call for Sanatana Dharma Preservation Board
Pawan Kalyan questioned why a Sanatana Dharma Rakshana Board should not exist when a Waqf Board is in place. He also assured that he would discuss pepper farmers’ issues with CM Chandrababu Naidu and cabinet ministers.
