Gadkari Urges Generational Shift, Calls on Youth to Take Charge of Leadership Roles
In a notable call for leadership renewal, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday emphasised the need for the older generation to make way for younger leaders once established systems begin to function smoothly. Speaking at a press briefing in Nagpur ahead of the Advantage Vidarbha–Khasdar Audhyogik Mahotsav, Gadkari asserted that an infusion of youthful energy and ideas is essential for sustainable governance and development.

Gadkari, who also serves as the chief mentor of the Association for Industrial Development (AID), said that senior leaders can continue contributing as mentors but should step back from core decision-making roles when appropriate. Referring to the involvement of young leaders in the Advantage Vidarbha initiative, he remarked that leadership must evolve over time to keep pace with changing economic and social dynamics.
The Advantage Vidarbha expo — scheduled for February 6 to 8 in Nagpur — aims to spotlight the region’s industrial and entrepreneurial potential. According to organisers, it will showcase participation from diverse sectors including textiles, logistics, technology, healthcare, defence manufacturing, renewable energy and startups. Gadkari stressed that the economic growth of regions like Vidarbha will depend on dynamic, forward-looking leadership as well as balanced sectoral development.
While his remarks were focused on broader leadership transition rather than a specific political context, they have sparked conversation among analysts about generational change in governance and public life. Gadkari’s appeal highlights a growing recognition within India’s public discourse that empowering younger stakeholders can drive innovation and resilience in national institutions.
