The NTR district police have denied permission for YSRCP to hold protests in Vijayawada on September 21 over alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process.
Vijayawada Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Krishnakanth Patil said the party had sought permission for constituency-level dharnas, rallies and other protest programmes. However, the police rejected the request as prohibitory orders are already in force under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Section 30 of the Police Act.
The DCP said the decision also considered the ongoing Vinayaka idol immersion programmes, processions, possible traffic disruptions and the shortage of police personnel. NTR district YSRCP president Devineni Avinash had sought permission for the proposed rally.
Police also said rallies are not allowed in the VIP zone. DCP Patil warned that cases could be registered and arrests made if anyone violates the orders or takes part in unauthorised protests.
He appealed to political leaders, party workers and the public to cooperate with the police and follow traffic rules.
The YSRCP had planned the protest to raise concerns over alleged irregularities in DSC recruitment.
