Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) on the 27th of February, reached Visakhapatnam airport.

A large number of TDP activists, workers and leaders gathered at the airport to welcome Mr. Naidu.  The scheduled visit was made amid tensions and clashes between the TDP activists and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) activists.

On the other hand, a few YSRCP leaders blocked Mr. Naidu’s way chanting slogans against him.

Several tomatoes were also thrown at Chandrababu Naidu’s convoy.

Mr. Naidu visited Visakhapatnam for the first time after the YSRCP Government announced the City to be the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

Chandrababu Naidu visited the City to talk to the people of Pendurthi mandal expressing solidarity with the people who lost their lands in the land pooling scheme.  The Andhra Pradesh Government recently initiated the ‘Pedalandariki Illu’ (housing for poor) scheme through land pooling. The Government directed the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to undertake lands of approximately 6,000 acres of land for this purpose.   The land would be taken from people of 10 mandal districts and would be alloted to people who belong to the weaker sections of the society including Scheduled Caste (SC,) Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Backward classes.

The TDP expressed concern over the scheme and said the YSRCP Government is once again taking the lands of poor like they did in Amaravati with the farmers.

However, the YSRCP denied the allegations and said the scheme would provide housing to the poor people and is a scheme aiming towards the growth and the development of the City.

The TDP President is expected to return back to Tedapalli, A.P., by the evening of the 27th of February.
