Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader is on a two day visit to West Bengal. 

Mr. Shah arrived at Kolkata Airport around 1:00 A.M., on the 19th of December and was received by the BJP leaders of West Bengal.

During his visit, Amit Shah would conduct rallies, meetings with Party cadres in the State and would take stock of the BJP’s affairs in West Bengal.

The visit is a strategy for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled in May 2021.

Before arriving, Mr. Shah posted a tweet which read, “I bow to this revered land of greats like Gurudev Tagore, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee.”

According to sources, Mr. Shah is scheduled to address a public rally at Midnapore today, the 19th of December.

Speaking of Mr. Shah’s schedule today, Amit Shah held a meeting with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from 9:45 A.M., and go on till 10:15 A.M.

At around 10:45 A.M., Amit Shah would pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda at the Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre and leave Kolkata at 11:45 A.M.

Later, at 12:30 P.M., Amit Shah would arrive at Siddheswari temple and then at 1:15 P.M., puja at Devi Mahamaya Temple is scheduled. Amit Shah would arrive in Midnapore for a rally at 2:30 P.M.

During the public rally event, it is said a few Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders are likely to join the BJP.

Rumours are that Suvendu Adhikari, who recently resigned from his cabinet portfolios and quit the TMC may join the BJP.

However, an official announcement regarding his joining is yet to come.

Dilip Ghosh, the President of the BJP in West Bengal is supervising all the arrangements of the Central leader’s visit.

Mr. Ghosh also said from now onwards, J.P. Nadda, the National President of the BJP and Union Minister Amit Shah would visit West Bengal every month.

The visit would be in the wake of the West Bengal Assembly elections due in April-May 2021. The BJP is eying the West Bengal elections to secure a hold in the State.

The State would contest for 294 Assembly seats.
