Local body elections are being held across Andhra Pradesh, with officials preparing for voting and counting in different areas. A change in the urban election schedule has now led to a revision of the dates for rural local body polls.
The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has moved polling for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) from November 3 to November 5.
According to the revised schedule, repolling, if needed, will take place on November 6, while counting and the announcement of results are set for November 7.
The commission said the earlier date for rural polling clashed with the counting of urban local body votes on November 3. Holding both activities on the same day could strain the availability of police and polling staff.
Meanwhile, urban local body polling will go ahead as planned on November 1. Repolling, if required, will be held on November 2, followed by counting and results on November 3.
The commission revised the rural poll dates after the urban election schedule changed following a Supreme Court order.
