The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Scheme, providing free rice until January 2023.

Under the scheme, every member of the family, with an eligible white ration card in the Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh, would be provided 5 kg of rice.

The extension of the scheme came due to no sufficient stocks of rice in the State, following which the scheme could not be implemented in October.  Mr. H. Arun Kumar, the Civil Supplies Department Commissioner confirmed the extension and said, on the request of the State Government to release the rice sanctioned for the Andhra Pradesh through the Food Commission of India (FCI,) the Centre has issued orders to FCI.  Now, with the supply of rice grains, the scheme would resume with an extension till January 2023.  This means the eligible people would get the rice for November and December.

While non sortex rice would be issued in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Paravathipuram Manyam, Konaseema, NTR, Bapatla and Nellore, the remaining 16 districts will be provided non sortex fortified rice.
