The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has postponed urban local body elections from October 28 to November 1, following a Supreme Court direction.
Polling will take place across 100 urban local bodies, including municipal corporations and municipalities. State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha said any repolling will be held on November 2, while vote counting is scheduled for November 3.
The SEC has also extended the nomination period in four local bodies: Kadapa Municipal Corporation, Rajampet Municipality, Mydukur Municipality and Tirupati Municipal Corporation.
Candidates in the affected wards can file nominations on October 22 and 23. Officials will review the new nominations on October 25. The deadline to withdraw nominations is also October 25.
The Supreme Court asked the SEC to review complaints from the YSR Congress Party and candidates who said they could not file nominations due to law and order issues. After reviewing reports and complaints, the SEC decided to give candidates in the four local bodies another chance to enter the contest.
