AP Cabinet Meeting Highlights: CM Jagan Mohan Reddy Approves Panel Formation For Creation Of New Districts

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) Government, on the 15th of July, decided to form a committee for the creation of new districts in Andhra Pradesh. 

The decision was taken by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, during a Cabinet meeting.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Cabinet approved the formation of the study panel.

In 2019, the YSRCP decided to form 12 new districts adding to existing 13 districts.

The ruling Government aims to increase A.P., districts from 13 to 25. The panel would be given time till the 31st of March 2021 to complete the study for the new districts.

Neelam Sawhney, the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh would head the panel.

The State Cabinet took several decisions at the meeting including decentralisation of State capital, the COVID-19 situation in Andhra Pradesh, welfare programmes, prevention measures for the Novel Coronavirus infection and others.

Deputy Chief Minister Pushpa Sri Vani pointed out that Araku with a large land area has a potential to be divided into two districts instead of the pre planned one district.

If this happens, Andhra Pradesh would have 26 districts.

Responding to this, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the authorities to study the possibility of carving Araku Parliamentary constituency into two districts.

In addition, the State Cabinet also approved a resolution permitting the establishment of a ‘Sand Corporation’ to monitor and address all issues related to sand mining, transportation and its sale. It will be a subsidiary entity under the mining department of the State Government.

The State Cabinet also approved the formation of a new corporation named Andhra Pradesh Rayalaseema Drought Mitigation Project Development Corporation Limited.

The corporation would monitor irrigation projects at an estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore in the Rayalaseema region.

The discussions happened during the Cabinet meeting were briefed by Perni Nani, the Transport and Information and Public Relations Minister of A.P., addressed the media and briefed about the decisions taken during the Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet meeting, which started at 11:30 A.M., was attended by State Cabinet ministers, Director General of Police (DGP) Damodar Gautam Sawang and other top officials in Andhra Pradesh.
