Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 31st of January, wrote a letter to Prime Minister  Narendra Modi regarding students stuck in China’s Wuhan, which is currently affected by Novel Coronavirus.

On the night of the 31st of January, Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his letter, urged PM Modi to rescue the Telugu youth who are in the Novel Coronavirus affected city Wuhan.

Mr. Reddy wrote, “It is to bring to your kind notice that 35 youth from Andhra Pradesh are trapped in the locked down city of Wuhan in China amid the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus. They are part of a group of staff of Panel Optodisplay Technology Private Ltd. (POPTL) who went there for training in August 2019.”

According to sources, a China based company, POTPL, selected 35 students from Visakhapatnam during a campus placement drive in 2019.  The Company selected the students to work at its upcoming LCD TV screen manufacturing unit near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh and took them to Wuhan for training.

The 35 students were originally scheduled to return to India in March 2020 after their training.

Jagan Mohan Reddy concluded his letter and said, “The parents of the affected employees are worried and want their wards back home at the earliest. Therefore, I request you to direct the concerned in Indian Embassy in China to evacuate them to India at the earliest and provide all necessary assistance.”

Coronavirus is a family of viruses which lead to common health ailments like cold and cough, severe ailments such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) and can also lead to death.  Scientists in China are working on developing a vaccine for the deadly virus.

So far, the deadly virus killed as many as 259 people in China, whereas 9,800 positive cases were reported.

On the 1st of February, an Air India flight brought back more than 300 Indians from Wuhan.  They landed in India today afternoon and are undergoing medical scrutiny.
