The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Legal Cell, on the 31st of January, wrote a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner.

The letter was written in regard to the incident which took place at the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university on the 30th of January.  According to sources, on the 30th of January, a 19 year old armed man opened fire at a Kashmiri student in front of a bunch of Delhi Police personnel.

The incident not only raised questions on the action of Delhi Police for not doing anything at the moment, but also fueled the ongoing protest against the Central Government.

According to the video which went viral all over social media platforms, the 19 year old man opened fire while asking if they really wanted Azadi.  The man is said to be a member of Bajrang Dal, a part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS.) Facebook India also confirmed they took down the account of the gunman.

The social media platform also confirmed the person used to post content which violated Facebook’s Dangerous Individuals and Organizations Policy guidelines.

Prem Sagar Pal, a member of the Legal Cell of the AAP, wrote the letter and demanded a special investigation pertaining to the incident, suspecting the involvement of Anurag Thakur, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

During a public rally in Delhi, Anurag Thakur, a star campaigner of the BJP, said, “Desh ke gaddaro ko,” following which the crowd shouted, “Goli maaro saalon ko.”

Parvesh Verma, another star campaigner of the BJP, created a controversy for his words against the protestors at Shaheen Bagh.  Parvesh Verma said, “Lakhs of people gather there (Shaheen Bagh). They will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters, kill them. There’s time today… Modiji and Amit Shah won’t come to save you tomorrow”.

After both the campaigners of the BJP stirred controversies by using such words, the EC banned them from campaigning for 72 and 96 hours respectively.

Highlighting the hate speeches given by the BJP star campaigners, Prem Sagar Pal said, “This action is in direct chronology of what Anurag Thakur of (the) BJP has exhorted a couple of days ago.”  The letter sent by the AAP Legal Cell further read, “The individual taking inspiration and direction from Anurag Thakur seems to have been abbited to commit his crime of firing on a protestor.”

The AAP leader concluded his letter by demanding a separate investigation regarding the role of Anurag Thakur in the attack.

The person who opened fire at the Kashmiri student in Delhi is under arrest and an investigation regarding the incident is underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
