Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 10th of May, conducted a review meeting and discussed the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the State.
During the meeting, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the concerned authorities to strengthen the 104 (emergency ambulance service) system in Andhra Pradesh. He asked officials to ensure the service is smooth in functioning and benefiting people in need.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President also asked the medical department to increase COVID-19 beds in districts with the highest number of cases.
While discussing the vaccination process, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, the COVID-19 vaccination program is under the control of the Central Government and has to be done as per their supply of vaccines. Highlighting available doses, he said only 19 lakh doses are coming in a month and hence the State Government needs to plan purchase of vaccines for the remaining population of the State.
In addition, as per the Government of India (GoI,) vaccines for people between 18 to 44 years old is the responsibility of the state governments. The state governments need to purchase the vaccines from manufacturers at the fixed amount.
The Serum Institute of India (SII) fixed Rs. 300 for Covisheild and the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited fixed Rs. 400 for COVAXIN. However, the mentioned prices are only for state governments, for private hospitals Covisheild and COVAXIN would be available for Rs. 600 and Rs. 1,200 respectively.
