Delhi: In a major blow to the Andhra Pradesh government, Supreme Court of India (SC) on Monday dismissed the petition filed seeking cancellation of bail to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in  Inner Ring road case.

The AP government challenged the anticipatory bail granted to Naidu in the alleged Inner Ring Road case on January 10,2024. The AP government challenged the orders in the apex court.

The SC bench of justices Sanjeev Khanna and Deepankar Gupta on Monday heard the petition. Sanjeev Khanna questioned whether the IRR case comes under the purview of 17(A). Counsel for AP government submitted to the court that the SC bench has denied quashing the remand while hearing the quash petition filed by Naidu. The SC bench expressed divided opinion in this matter.

Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Naidu, submitted in court that the former minister’s bail cancellation petition was dismissed earlier by SC. The SC bench opined that they cannot cancel the bail and dismissed the petition. However opined that the High Court’s comments while granting bail should not affect the investigation. The CID is given a chance to move court seeking cancellation of bail if the accused denies to support the investigation.
