The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government, on the 9th of May, reduced liquor shops in the State by another 13 %.
Previously on the 7th of May, the Andhra Pradesh State Government reduced the number of liquor shops by 15 % after the shops reopened on the 4th of May, amid the lockdown.
All the liquor shops in the State are under supervision of the State Government and are run by the A.P., State Beverages Corporation Limited.
On the 9th of May, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government issued an order regarding the same. With this, now the State has 2,934 shops from the previous 3,500 shops.
The shops which need to shut their doors are asked to close their business by the end of May.
The decision to do so was a step to meet the agenda of making Andhra Pradesh an alcohol free State in 5 years.
Meanwhile, the State Government also increased liquor prices by 75 %, with a vision to make revenue during the pandemic crises.
The State reported a total of 1,87 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 41 fatalities till the 9th of May.
