Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Police have issued official notices to controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) following complaints regarding alleged defamatory posts targeting opposition leaders. A police team, led by SSI Sivaramaiah from Maddipadu station in Prakasam district, visited Varma’s residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, to serve the notices.
The notices stem from complaints received during promotions of Varma’s film Vyuham, made prior to the state elections. M. Ramalingam, Secretary of the Maddipadu Mandal Telugu Desam Party (TDP), alleged that Varma’s social media posts targeted former opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu and his family members, defaming their reputations. Police registered a case on Sunday at midnight, summoning Varma to appear for inquiry.
Additionally, a separate complaint was lodged against Varma at the Tulluru police station. Nutalapati Rama Rao, State Telugu Rythu vice-president, accused the director of digitally altering images of political figures, including Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Lokesh, and posting them with derogatory captions on social media. The complaint calls for legal action against Varma for these posts.
The AP Police are expected to proceed with the investigation following Varma’s response to the notices.
