Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao announced significant technological advancements in the state’s law enforcement strategies, including the integration of one lakh CCTV cameras with the Vijayawada Police Command Control Center by March 31, 2025.

Speaking to the media, DGP Rao revealed that over 25,000 CCTV cameras are already operational, with public participation aiding in crime prevention. Highlighting the surge in cybercrimes, he stated that 916 cybercrime cases have been reported this year, with losses amounting to ₹1,229 crore. He urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid falling prey to fraudulent calls.

To combat the growing menace of cybercrime, new cybercrime police stations are being established in every district. Additionally, the state is introducing the “Smart Police AI” system, a first-of-its-kind in India. Currently implemented in Eluru district, this AI system supports officers in investigations. Vijayawada police are also leveraging AI for traffic and crowd management.

The DGP emphasized the police’s efforts to eradicate ganja cultivation across 10,380 acres by promoting alternative crops among tribal communities. Regarding social media misuse, 572 cases have been registered for objectionable posts, with rowdy sheets and cyber sheets being maintained for offenders.
