AP Reports 56 New COVID-19 Cases, Tally Rises To 813

On the 22nd of April, Andhra Pradesh reported 56 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, taking the total to 813.

According to sources, out of the 56 new cases, 19 were from Guntur district .  After Kurnool with 203 cases, Guntur district has the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 177.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government announced strict lockdown guidelines, issued a set of rules for super markets and deployed police officials to curb the spread of the virus.  Despite these attempts, the cases are increasing day by day without any hint of slowing down.

Currently, the State Government is focussing on Kurnool, Guntur, Krishna and Nellore, as these four districts together account approximately 534 cases of COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

On the 21st of April, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, conducted a review meeting and directed the concerned officials tackling COVID-19 situation to take effective steps for the prevention of the spread of the virus.  The AP CM also asked the officials to conduct more tests with the help of rapid test kits and take effective measures to control the situation.

Recently, the State Government imported 1 lakh rapid test kits for COVID-19 test from South Korea.   The YSRCP also decided to transform Government General Hospital in Kurnool into a COVID-19 treatment centre.  

In addition, the YSRCP Government also sought permission to conduct plasma therapy as a cure for the COVID-19 infection.

Out of 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) only Srikakulam and Vizianagaram are the districts where zero cases of COVID-19 have been reported.

However, the State Government announced implementation of strict lockdown in these districts and to conduct COVID-19 tests on those suspected of contracting the infection.
