AP SEC Rejects Reports of Two-Month Delay in Local Body Polls

The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has rejected reports claiming that the local body election schedule will be delayed by another two months.

State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha said false and unauthorised information was being shared on social media and other platforms.

The reports claimed that the SEC would wait for court clearance on electoral rolls and reservations before announcing the election schedule. Punetha said these claims were not issued by the Commission.

The SEC asked the public, political parties and other stakeholders not to trust or circulate such information. It also warned that spreading fake information in the Commission’s name could lead to action under the law.

The Commission said the election schedule will be announced only through an official press conference or press release. People were asked to verify election-related information through authorised sources.

The clarification comes as preparations for local body polls continue in Andhra Pradesh. The terms of Mandal Praja Parishads ended on September 23, while Zilla Praja Parishad terms ended on September 24.
