The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on the 9th of November, Tuesday, issued a letter of award to companies for electric buses.
The letter was issued to the Olectra Greentech Limited (Olectra) and the Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY) for supplying 100 electric buses under the Government of India’s FAME-II scheme. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government took up the FAME II scheme, under which the Central Government adopted EVs. The FAME II scheme, was introduced to drive greater adoption of EVs in India with a budget outlay of Rs. 10,000 crores in April 2019. Under the scheme the Central Government would support 7,000 e-buses, 5,00,000 e-three-wheelers, 55,000 e-passenger vehicles and a million e-two-wheelers. As of now 2021, about 1,24,415 vehicles have benefited under the scheme.
According to reports, under the same scheme, the Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to run 50 electric buses on the Tirumala-Tirupati ghat road and the rest serving as intercity buses between Tirupati and Nellore, Kadapa, and Madanapalle in Chittoor district.
It is learnt from company sources that these buses would be given on a gross cost contract with an arrangement for a period of few years.
As of now, the contract is worth over Rs. 140 crore and the buses would be delivered over a 12 month period.
