On the 27th of July, Somu Veerraju, appointed as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Andhra Pradesh.
The decision was taken by J.P. Nadda, the National President of the BJP.
Following the directions of Mr. Nadda, Arun Singh, the General Secretary of the BJP issued the notice of Somu Veerraju’s appointment.
Somu Veerraju who is from Kapu community and serves as the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of the BJP, replaced Kanna Lakshminarayana.
Kanna Lakshminarayana was the President of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh since the 2018.
The move of replacing Lakshminarayana with another Kapu leader is said to be a step to consolidate its base among the Kapu community. In Andhra Pradesh, a large population is of the Kapu community.
The two regional parties in the State, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) have their support base among the Reddy and Kamma communities, respectively.
The BJP Rajya Sabha Member G.V.L., Narasimha Rao wished the new president Somu Veerraju through a tweet.
The BJP leaders, in fact, are broadly divided into three groups.
They including a group have been supporting Veerraju, in which Narasimha Rao is also a key player. The other group broadly consists of the people who shifted their loyalties and seitched to the BJP from the TDP and the third who supports Kanna Lakshminarayana.
According to sources, Kanna Lakshminarayana’s recent letter to the Andhra Pradesh Governor urging him to reject the three capital construction bills sent by the State, was one of the reasons to replace Mr. Kanna.
However, no official reasons have been given by the BJP regarding the new appointment.
Mr. Somu Veerraju would take over charge as the new BJP President of Andhra Pradesh soon.
