The British Era bridge over Bahuda River collapsed in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam region, on the 3rd of May, Wednesday.

As per the officials, the incident occurred when a granite laden lorry carrying 70 tonnes of granite, was passing through, resulting in the collapse.  In the major accident, two people reportedly got injured.  The incident took place on the busy Calcutta-Chennai National Highway 5, raising concerns about the safety of bridges and roads across India.

Furthermore, the incident raises questions about the maintenance and safety of bridges in India, especially the ones that were constructed during the colonial era. The authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, and initial reports suggest that the bridge may have collapsed due to structural weaknesses or lack of maintenance. It is also possible that the weight of the truck, combined with poor road conditions, may have contributed to the collapse.
