Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the TDP-led alliance will aim to give 40% of its party tickets to Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections.
Speaking at a virtual meeting with alliance leaders on Sunday, Naidu said the government had accepted the recommendations of the Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission. The commission proposed an average 28.18% reservation for BCs in local body elections.
Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of reducing the BC reservation quota from 34% to 24%. He said the alliance would work to improve BC representation while protecting the interests of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
He also asked party leaders to launch a statewide campaign under the slogan “Jai Ho BC” and strengthen preparations for the elections.
Naidu said candidates would be chosen based on their chances of winning, honesty, ability and commitment. He also called for better coordination among alliance partners and joint campaigning.
The meeting focused on increasing the alliance’s support and preparing leaders for the upcoming local body polls.
