The counting of votes for the by polls held on the 30th of October in three Lok Sabha and 30 assembly constituencies across India is underway.
The by election for 30 Member of the Assembly (MLA) seats were held in 14 states: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Nagaland, Mizoram, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Assam and Rajasthan were held on the 30th of October and the counting of votes are underway.
In addition to the MLA seats, the by election results for three Lok Sabha constituencies were also going to be declared today, the 2nd of November.
The seats where Lok Sabha bye-elections were held are Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
Highlights of the counting of votes:
West Bengal:
As of now, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is leading on all four assembly seats of the State. Following the voting for four assembly seats: Dinhata, Khardaha, Gosaba (SC), and Santipur. There is a tough fight between the Bharatiya Janata Janata Party (BJP) and the TMC for retaining the MLA seats.
Assam:
The ruling BJP candidates are leading in Bhawanipur and Thowra assembly bypolls in Assam, according to initial trends available for two of the five seats where counting of votes is underway.
Karnataka
Counting of votes is underway for Sindgi and Hangal assembly constituencies in Karnataka. According to early trends, the BJP and the Indian National Congress (INC) are leading on one seat each.
An estimated 69.47 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Sindgi assembly constituency, while it was 83.76 per cent in the Hangal segment. A total of 19 candidates are in the fray in the two constituencies, including six from Sindgi and 13 from Hangal.
Bihar
As of now, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United JD(U) and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are leading on one seat each.
Altogether 17 candidates are in the fray for the two seats – eight in Tarapur and nine in Kusheshwar Asthan.
Telangana
Counting of votes polled in the keenly-watched by election to the Huzurabad assembly constituency in Telangana. As per early trends, the BJP’s Eatala Rajender is leading. The counting would be conducted in 22 rounds.
Haryana
The INC candidate Mr. Abhay Singh Chautala is leading over his nearest rival Mr. Gobind Kanda of the BJP, with a margin of 478 votes in the Ellenabad assembly constituency in Haryana.
Himachal Pradesh
The INC is leading in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi parliamentary seat and three assembly seats of Fatehpur, Arki and Jubbai-Kothkai, according to available trends for the bypolls.
In the Mandi parliamentary seat, late chief minister Virbhadra Singh’s wife Pratibha Singh of the Congress is leading with 1,316 votes over her nearest rival Kargil war hero Brigadier (retd) Khushal Thakur of the BJP. In Jubbal-Kotkhai Assembly seat after second round of counting, Rohit Thakur (2,825) of the INC is leading with 248 votes over his nearest rival Chetan Singh Bragta (2577), a rebel BJP candidate contesting as an independent candidate.
Madhya Pradesh
The BJP is leading in all the four seats – three Assembly and one Lok Sabha – after the first round of counting of votes on Tuesday, the 2nd of November.
Mr. Gyaneshwar Patil, the BJP’s candidate in Khandwa Lok Sabha seat has got 16,984 votes so far against 11,264 of the INC’s Mr. Raj Narayan Purni.
From Raigon, the BJP candidate Mr. Pratima Bagari bagged 5,973, while the Indian National Congress candidate Mr. Kalpana Verma 5,754 votes.
Rajasthan
The INC candidates Nagraj Meena and Preeti Shaktawat are leading in Dhariawad and Vallabhnagar assembly constituencies of Rajasthan, according to available trends.
Ms. Nagraj Meena is leading by a margin of 1,185 votes over rhe BJP candidate Mr. Khet Singh Meena in Dhariawad.
In Vallabhnagar, Mr. Shaktawat is ahead of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) candidate Mr. Udailal Dangi by a margin of 1,269 votes.
Maharashtra
The INC candidate Mr. Jitesh Raosaheb Antapurkar was leading over the BJP’s Mr. Subhash Pirajirao Sabne by 2,293 votes after the first round of counting of votes in Maharashtra’s Deglur (SC) assembly bypoll.
The constituency is in Nanded district, from where state public works department minister Ashok Chavan hails.
Mizoram
Mizo National Front is leading on 1 seat in Mizoram. The bypoll to the Tuirial Assembly constituency in Kolasib district bordering Assam was held following the death of sitting Legislator, Andrew H. Thangliana of the Zoram People’s Movement.
Meghalaya
Meghalaya’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is leading in Mawryngkneng assembly seat where counting of votes got underway. According to the Election Commission of India website.
NPP’s Pyniaid Sinh Syiem was leading his nearest Congress rival, Highlander Kharmalki, by 1,547 votes.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) is leading in Mawphlang constituency where its candidate Eugeneson Lyndoh was ahead of Congress’s Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem by 814 votes.
Andhra Pradesh
In the by-election in Badvel seat in Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP candidate Dr. Dasari Sudha is leading against the rival TDP fielded a candidate.
