A day after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddyy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,)  spoke to the Union Finance Minister to bring back Telugu fishermen stranded in Gujarat, the Gujarat Government started shifting them.

On the 28th of April, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Gujarat Government, started shifting all the fishermen stuck at Veraval seaport.

Approximately 4,000  fishermen from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam were stranded in Gujarat due to the nation wide lockdown, which is proposed to end on the 3rd of May.

However, on the urging of the A.P., Government all these fishermen were sent back to their native villages after medical tests for the Novel Coronavirus were conducted on the fishermen.

The Gujarat Government collected an amount of Rs. 3,000 from each fisherman and arranged 17 special buses to send them back.

Though the Andhra Pradesh Government allocated Rs. 3,000 crores for the stranded fishermen, the Gujarat Government did not receive any money, following which they asked for money from fishermen.

Mailapalli Harappadu and Duna Rama Rao, fishermen from Veraval said, “With no alternative, we had to pay the amount.”

Seventeen buses carrying 75 people each left Gujarat on the night of the 28th of April and are scheduled to reach Andhra Pradesh by the 30th of April.
