Cyclone Arnab Puts Andhra Coast on Alert

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which is moving across the Bay of Bengal. Coastal districts face the risk of heavy rain and strong winds as the storm approaches land.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm was over the west-central Bay of Bengal at 2.30 am on Tuesday. It is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts near Yanam by the morning of October 28.

The storm could bring sustained winds of up to 125 kmph, with gusts reaching 140 kmph, according to the weather update.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) warned that heavy rain was likely in north coastal districts. Srikakulam was among the areas expected to face heavy rainfall and strong winds. Strong winds had already begun in some coastal districts.

APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain urged people to stay alert and follow safety advice.

The cyclone is expected to move northwest before crossing the coast. People in affected areas have been advised to take precautions as the storm approaches.
