Cyclone Montha Update – Andhra, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu on High Alert
Cyclone Montha has hit the east coast of India, bringing fierce winds and heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded red alerts across several districts and urged residents to stay indoors.

The storm crossed the coast near Kakinada on Tuesday evening. Wind speeds reached up to 100 km/h, uprooting trees and damaging power lines. IMD officials said the cyclone would weaken gradually but warned that rain will continue for the next 48 hours.
Thousands Evacuated as Storm Batters Coastal Districts
Over 70,000 people have been moved to safer zones in Andhra Pradesh. NDRF teams are conducting rescue and relief operations. Roads are flooded, and power has been cut in several towns to prevent accidents.
In Odisha, districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri are witnessing heavy showers and strong gusts. The state government has activated control rooms and deployed response units. In Tamil Nadu, northern districts including Chennai and Cuddalore are experiencing moderate rainfall with high-speed winds.
Fishermen have been warned to avoid venturing into the sea. Ports remain closed as waves rise dangerously high along the coast. Local officials are on 24-hour alert, monitoring water levels and flood-prone zones.
Agricultural fields in low-lying regions have suffered waterlogging and crop loss. Emergency crews are clearing fallen trees to restore traffic. Power restoration work is already underway in affected regions.
Weather experts say Cyclone Montha will move inland by Wednesday night. Rains will ease gradually by Thursday. However, the latest Cyclone Montha update shows the storm’s strong impact on both infrastructure and livelihoods.
Experts say the cyclone’s intensity will gradually reduce by Thursday, but isolated heavy rainfall will continue in parts of Andhra and Odisha. The government has urged citizens to remain cautious and rely only on official weather updates for accurate information.
The latest Cyclone Montha update highlights the urgent need for continued vigilance as eastern India faces yet another strong tropical system this season.
