Andhra Pradesh is facing a fresh weather challenge as Cyclone Murasu moves towards its coast. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect several coastal districts over the next two days.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation with senior officials on Sunday. He also cancelled his planned Delhi visit on Monday to focus on the state’s preparedness.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the storm could become a severe cyclonic storm before crossing the south Andhra coast. It is expected to cross between Nellore and Narsapur around midnight on November 2 or early November 3. Wind speeds could reach 100–110 kmph, with gusts of up to 120 kmph.
The IMD forecast moderate to heavy rain on November 2, followed by heavy to very heavy rain in several places on November 3 and 4. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in 20 mandals across Eluru, Krishna, NTR and Bapatla districts.
Officials also warned of possible flooding in Budameru and other water bodies. Strong winds could affect more than 12,000 electricity poles across 12 districts.
