Hyderabad: Telangana government intensified exercise on distribution of LPG gas cylinders at a subsidized price of Rs.500 under Maha Lakshmi scheme. Beneficiaries holding white ration cards will soon get the gas cylinder at subsidized price.
The Congress party in its election manifesto promised to give gas cylinders at a subsidized price of Rs. 500. As promised CM Revanth Reddy and his cabinet started an exercise to launch the scheme within 100 days from assuming power.
Civic Supplies authorities submitted a report to the government recently and stated that there are around 1.20 crore household LPG connections in the state in which 89.98 lakh connections belong to the white ration card holders. A total of 4.2 lakh consumers from the state have give away their subsidy.
However only 63.6 lakh LPG connections are mapped with ration cards. Authorities are eyeing to make biometric mandatory at the time of delivery of cylinders to prevent the misuse.
Government is yet to get clarity on the number of cylinders to be given to the beneficiaries per annum on subsidy. Government is presently conducting a survey recording the response of the public on various proposals grounded by the civil supplies department on subsidized sale of LPG gas cylinders.
