On the 2nd of December, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Cyclone ”Jawad” alert for the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Reportedly, a low pressure formed in Thailand and the Andaman Sea will intensify as it moves over the southeast Bay of Bengal by the 2nd of December. The cyclone will come from the Bay of Bengal with a wind speed of 90 to 100 km/hr by the 4th of December. It may cause heavy to heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh including regions of Kadapa, Chittoor, Nellore and other regions. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on the 2nd of December, held a meeting with district collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam to review the situation.
Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy discussed with the collectors the precautionary measures to be taken. During the review meeting, he directed the district collectors and officials to set up relief camps at required locations. He instructed the officials to be alert in low-lying areas and take all necessary measures. In addition, the State Government has appointed three officers for Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts each. H. Arun Kumar has been appointed as special officer for Srikakulam, Kanthilal Dande for Vizianagaram and Syamala Rao for Visakhapatnam district, to monitor relief measures. The chief minister directed the special officers to depart to their assigned districts and coordinate and monitor relief works.
