
Delhi: As part of the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, India has outlined significant allocations in its latest budget to strengthen ties with neighboring countries. The budget for the financial year 2024-25, presented by the Department of External Affairs, includes Rs. 22,154 crores in development assistance.
Bhutan is set to receive Rs. 2,068 crores, while Nepal has been allocated Rs. 700 crores. In contrast, funding for the Maldives has been reduced from Rs. 770 crores last year to Rs. 400 crores this year. This reduction follows previous controversies and strained relations between the two nations.
Sri Lanka will receive Rs. 245 crores, a notable increase from last year’s Rs. 60 crores. Additionally, Rs. 100 crores have been allocated for the maintenance of the Chabahar port in Iran, and Rs. 200 crores for Afghanistan. Bangladesh and Myanmar will receive Rs. 120 crores and Rs. 250 crores, respectively.
