K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) of Telangana, on the 1st of October wrote to Nitin Gadkari, the Minister Road Transport and Highways of India. 

In the letter written to Mr. Gadkari, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government demanded Rs. 500 crores from the Central Government.

The money was asked for the development of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway.

KTR asked the Union Transport and Highway Ministry to grant the amount.

The Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway would be 25 kilometres.

It would connect people from Hyderabad, Telangana to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

It would also connect routes passing through some of the busiest places in Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

According to the sources, the budget of Rs. 500 crores for the highway construction was prepared by the State Public Works Department.

KTR said, “The Government has taken up several development projects in the City to match the needs of the City.” He further said, three of four urban projects sanctioned by the Union Government are nearing completion and the flyover at Amberpet construction is scheduled to begin soon.

In the letter, Mr. Rao also briefed about the complete projects like flyovers, Road over Bridges (ROBs,) Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and link roads under Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP.)

Of the many projects, few were completed during the three months lockdown in India due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

KTR concluded the letter demanding the release of the asked funds to complete the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway.
