Mid Day Meal Scheme, the welfare scheme to feed students of government schools, started on the 28th of January in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

Under the Mid Day Meal Scheme, students studying in various government schools would get food according to the menu decided beforehand.

On the 29th of January, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) renamed the Mid Day Meal Scheme after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P.

The new name of the scheme is ‘Jagananna Gorumudda.’  The menu will now be enhanced and better.

Below is the daily menu based on which the food would be served to students.

Monday: Rice, egg curry and chickpea (a recipe for peanut lentil gingerbread.)

Tuesday: Pulihora, tomato dal and boiled egg.

Wednesday: Vegetable rice, aloo kurma, boiled egg and chickpea.

Thursday: Khichdi, tomato chutney and boiled egg.

Friday: Rice, asparagus, boiled egg and chickpea.

Saturday: Rice, sambar and sweet ‘Pongal.’

Besides renaming the scheme after Jagan Mohan Reddy, the State Government also increased the salary of the workers working on implementing the scheme.  Previously, the monthly salary of the employees associated with the scheme was Rs. 1,000, but now it would be Rs. 3,000.

Though the increased salaries would add a burden of Rs. 344 crores on the Government, the YSRCP Government approved the same.

The scheme came into effect from the 28th of January.

Stay tuned for further updates.
