The municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh have brought a strong result for the ruling alliance in several local bodies. Jaggaiahpet Municipality in NTR district has now emerged as a key success for the NDA.
The NDA alliance secured 32 of the 36 wards in Jaggaiahpet. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 28 wards, while the Jana Sena Party (JSP) secured three and the BJP won one.
The TDP and Jana Sena had already won 12 wards unanimously before polling. These victories were included in the alliance’s final tally.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) won three wards, while an independent candidate secured one ward.
Meanwhile, counting continued in Tiruvuru Municipality. In the first round, results were declared for 14 of its 28 wards. The TDP won nine, while the BJP, Jana Sena, CPM, YSRCP and an independent candidate secured one ward each.
The Jaggaiahpet result gives the NDA a clear majority in the municipality.
