On the 12th of June, Monday, the opposition leader claimed data leak by the Central Government manufactured CoWIN Portal.

Mr. Saket Gokhale, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Spokesperson, took to Twitter and said,  “Major privacy breach by the Modi government,” through the Covid-19 vaccination app CoWIN, claiming that “personal details of all vaccinated Indians have been leaked and are freely available.”

Other Opposition leaders like Ms. Supriya Sule of the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) Karti Chidambaram and others too joined in flagging allegations against the Central Government’s CoWIN Portal.

As per the allegations, the CoWIN Portal application of the Central Government leaked personal details of citizens uploaded on the CoWIN portal after their vaccination.  The opposition leaders also claimed that now the leaked data is easily available and freely accessible on Telegram app for some time.

In an elaborate Twitter thread, TMC’s Saket Gokhale mentioned some high-profile names, whose details, including their mobile numbers, Aadhaar numbers, Passport numbers, Voter ID, and details of family members were also released.

The list of such opposition leaders, according to Mr. Saket Gokhale tweet, included Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) and TMC Leader Derek O’Brien, former Union Minister P Chidambaram, and Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal, deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha Haribansh Narayan Singh, and Rajya Sabha MPs Sushmita Dev, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and Sanjay Raut among others.

In addition, the TMC Spokesperson also named some journalists, saying their private info, too, was available online.

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government refused the claims of data breach and said they would look into the matter and investigate.
