On the night of the 26th of February, Sunday, D. Preethi, a medical student of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) who allegedly committed suicide and was undergoing treatment, died.
The Nizam Institute Of Medical Sceince (NIMS) released a health bulletin and confirmed Preethi’s demise. “Despite continuous efforts by the multi-disciplinary team of specialist doctors, she (Preethi) could not be saved and was declared dead on 26/02/2023 at 09:10 P.M.,” read the bulletin. Multiple wings of the city police were deployed in huge numbers at NIMS and Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, where the autopsy was performed late at night.
The girl died five days after the tragic incident while undergoing treatment at the NIMS, in Hyderabad. The victim allegedly committed suicide, after being harassed by a senior at the college, confirmed police.
On the 23rd of February, a first year medical student D. Preethi, studying at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) Warangal, committed suicide, by injecting herself succinylcholine, which is used to relax muscles and nerves. However, if a healthy person takes the injection, it could cause severe health issues. She took the extreme step after being allegedly harassed by a senior S.A. Saif. The police investigated the matter and said, the ragging started with a remark on a WhatsApp group, and continued for a couple of days, following which Preethi took the extreme step. The Warangal Police registered a case against the accused and called it a targetted harassment case. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President of Telangana Unit Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar called it a clear case of love jihad and demanded action against the same.
Meanwhile, according to the Hyderabad Police, Preethi’s father, Narender Dharavath, refused to accept her body demanding an inquiry into the incident by a sitting judge.
The last rites of the girl is expected to be held on the 27th of February, Monday.
